Shrek Rave @ North Park Observatory: 9/3/22 : Review

The Shrek Rave. The nationwide nostalgic phenomenon made famous on Instagram and TikTok finally toured America and came to San Diego to bless the North Park Observatory. It sold out immediately, faster than any event before in San Diego. The crowd was the most thematically dressed crowd I have ever seen. (watch our Youtube video here). Looking around you realize how perfect the characters are in Shrek for finding costumes for. A white t-shirt, cane, and sunglasses for the three blind mice, a chef outfit for the gingerbread man's dad, knight outfits, etc. There was also a few perfect Lord Farquaad outfits. But I think the best outfit of the night was our own member's inflatable Gingerbread Man outfit.  We already had press passes from doing the Giveaway but the morning before our talented DJ best friend Sriracha Man called to tell us he was flying in to DJ the San Diego Shrek Rave and we could be backstage to help film for him. We knew it was on from there! 

When the switchover began for Sriracha Man the crowd was cheering "Sriracha! Sriracha! Sriracha!" Quick to get started he instantly pounced on the decks, blasting the crowd with heavenly bass. The vibes were extremely high, everyone dancing around having a blast. Our inflated Gingerbread Man began to help lead the crowd and help multiply the great energy all around, like a comical Shrek themed go-go dancer hype-man. Sriracha Man draped in his luxurious silk kimono and traditional hat, the crowd roared for his great song choices. Perfect blending and transitions took us on an amazing journey of sound, with lots of house, bass house, and techno mixed in with a few catchy songs we all know and love. The selection for the crowd was perfect. And then things really started up when it was time to spice it up and give the crowd what they wanted, Sriracha sauce! As the Gingerbread Man appeared once more in front of the crowd, this time with a Sriracha bottle in hand. The crowd began diving over the rail, mouth's open and camera's ready to take a Sriracha chug.  The pure joy of the crowd watching each other take a chug of the spicy goodness was truly beautiful to see. Many newcomers who at first acted not interested at all eventually were begging to be picked for a chug. Security was smart and prompt to get napkins out on the floor to the chuggers (shout out to them!). Man it seems a entertainment match made in heaven, Sriracha Man and his saucy Sriracha and perfect beats and the Shrek Rave itself. We've been to more festivals than we can count including the last 2 EDC's, but I swear to you Sriracha Man's set was the best set we have ever seen. 12/10.

This was of those great San Diego nights where you can just feel it in your blood that everyone that is anyone in San Diego is at the spot to be. Tonight it was Pechanga Arena for Subtronics "Antifractals" Album tour. Everyone dressed up in full rave attire ready to go ham.  We arrived around 10 for Getter who slayed it as always. But then Subtronics just completely blew the roof off the place. The production level was ridiculously high. The best production I have ever seen in San Diego, setting a new precedent for Pechanga Arena events. The most lazers we have ever seen (and we've been to EDC multiple times among other endless festivals) and the best cleanest dubstep bass we have ever felt. Not to mention this bass was pounding through our soles while we watched all the way in the back upper bowl of the arena. We didn't know bass could be felt from so far away. Kaivon @ North Park Observatory: 11/10/22 : Review

 Kaivon really blew us away with his performance, not what we expected at all but what we needed. We were expecting a much more emotional melodic dubstep set like many of his songs, but ended up recieving an amazing mix starting off with insanely heavy wobbley wook bass that we like to call "wobble-step or wook-step"( Watch the set here ).  The visuals on the LED wall and C02 cannons use was a great production at the Observatory. He also mixed in a variety of transitions including psytrance melodies. We have also loved the melodic dubstep genres mixing in of psytrace, keeping the show very fun, upbeat and dancy (similar to a Haliene show). The night eventually become more characteristic of Kaivon with more emotional melodic dubstep and a few surprising popular throwbacks such as Kid Cudi songs. Swedish House Mafia Returns @ Pechanga Arena: 9/4/22 : Review

Finally, the return of Swedish House Mafia was upon us. Personally we grew up listening to this in our older brother's car, changing our lives and specifically our ears forever. Who would of thought many years last we would be doing a ticket giveaway for this event and holding press passes. The event had the talented Zhu opening up, one of our personal favorites. Zhu's bass shook the floor where we stood infront of the AV tent at the back of the arena floor. The energy was electric all around as everyone danced around. Suddenly the great entertainer slows down the music and brings a few lucky front row fans up onstage for a game of Zhu's musical chairs. It all ends with one winner, a lucky girl who is starstruck, allowed to play the CDJ's but is a bit too startruck to even move or say anything.
